Can you be preserving if you aren’t sharing? Can you be sharing if you aren’t preserving? I’ve heard it said that preserving sound doctrine and sharing the gospel are two roles of the Church. It is implied that some people are ‘good at’ one of these, some are ‘good at’ the other, and that’s why we need both types of people. I disagree. The Gospel, aka Good News, is preserved as it’s shared and is shared as it’s preserved. This topic might be a good candidate for my original model.
If you are preserver and not a sharer, I’d argue that it’s not the Gospel you are preserving but something else–maybe a tradition, an attitude, or a preference. I think of a monk. If you are a sharer and not a preserver, I’d argue that it’s not the Gospel you are sharing but something else–maybe a philosophy, a political method, or a selfish angle. I think of President Trump–talking the talk but not interested in whether true Christianity really sticks around.
