A couple discussions bred the title of this post. First, I was listening to my news program of the week on a Monday (The World and Everything In it) in which the economist was explaining a Christian’s worldview around economy, as being one of abundance–we believe that wealth is not fixed but is a direct result of human ingenuity. He made the claim that there are an infinite needs and wants, and humans will continue to solve for more and more abundance. (It is also why I don’t fear Ai)
Later, I was sharing this concept with my family at our morning devotions as we were discussing ‘gratitude.’ I modified the economist’s statement to something I find even more true–humans have infinite wants which creates infinite needs. I used our desire to get some goats as an example. We want goats, and that creates many needs–a barn, a trailer, feed, vet services, concrete, water, heat, pasture, fencing, chores, vacation coordination, video cameras….you get the idea. ONE WANT created MANY NEEDS. Profound, I thought. I challenged my family to think of a single WANT that doesn’t create needs…we were unsuccessful in our attempts.
At Kingdom Autocare, we really try to practice what we preach. Each week, I lead our management team in reciting the following.
| MISSION: Kingdom Autocare is a people-first organization that attempts to run on biblical principles to serve local communities in every way possible | ||
| VISION: Serve 100,000 customers in 2030. | ||
| “By being here, I am expressing my continued support of our mission and vision and am striving to be the best version of myself that I can be! I am more fit today than I was yesterday, and because I continually improve, I believe tomorrow will present greater opportunities than today, so we will get everything possible done today so that we are ready for tomorrow.” |
This last paragraph encapsulates my philosophy on growth, wealth, and stewardship. I confessed to my team my need to continue to practice a growth mindset. I have to lead the team in my commitment to growth of myself if I am to expect it in others. Maybe none of this is interesting to you at all, or even the least bit profound. But for me and my house, we better control our wants or else we’ll be overwhelmed with all these needs that sneak in the back door.
