About this time every year, my girls get tired of unstructured free time (or maybe it’s the extra jobs assigned on the fly) and start thinking about the upcoming educational year. Last year, they get started about this time, and no doubt would have this year had it not been for a real-world educational experience of travelling as a foreigner for four weeks! Betsy got most of the stuff ordered, but Lexi’s schooling is a little more difficult, both because we have to go through everything for the first time, and because Betsy and I both attended public high school and therefore have less experience with historically-bonafide high school curricula.
Further, I’m a skeptic, especially around higher ed and high school, so it appeals more to me to piece together some educational experiences than the carte blanche approach that our human laziness would prefer.
I finally pulled the trigger on petersonacademy.com It promises to teach us how to think, not what to. However, every teacher has a bias, and it would be unwise to think that the teachers in Peterson have none. I may get sucked in to some of these lecture-led ‘courses.’
Ask me a year from now what my take on petersonacademy.com is. I’m sure I’ll have a few opinions by then!
